Peter D. Grimm was elected to the Rensselaer County
Legislature in November of 2005, his first elective
office. Representing the City of Troy, Grimm brings an
enthusiasm and energy to the city’s citizen spirit. An
active community volunteer in Troy for decades, he
believes in the effectiveness of grassroots
participation in community quality-of-life issues.
Grimm is President and founding board member of “Friends
of Prospect Park,” an organization that has worked to
preserve and rejuvenate one of Troy’s outstanding
natural and recreational resources. He also founded the
“Clean Alleys” program, a volunteer effort to make
Troy’s alleys cleaner and safer, and was a founding
board member of Troy United Ink, a publication devoted
to strengthening pride in Troy through highlighting its
diverse neighborhoods.
For the past few years, Grimm has worked diligently as a
founding Board Member of the Troy Community Food
Cooperative. He is especially eager to see the Congress
Street market open its doors to not only enhance the
quality of life for Trojans, but to bring new jobs to
the downtown area. As in many other neighboring
communities, Troy’s Community Food Coop will be a
welcome addition to the city.
Grimm brings a unique skill set to his legislative
position as a former successful businessman and
entrepreneur. He is currently Special Projects Manager
for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Grimm is often
recognized by his colleagues and constituents as having
a contagious passion for planning and organizing. His
hard work, commitment and personal integrity offer the
community of Troy direction and leadership that is
unsurpassed.
As County Legislator representing the City of Troy,
Grimm serves on the Education Committee; the Arts,
Culture, and County Heritage Committee; and the
Environmental Committee. He also serves on the County
Tourism Committee.
In his first term in the Legislature, Grimm sponsored:
• Passage of the Bigger, Better Bottle Bill
• Establishment of a Rensselaer County Dedicated Tourism
Development Fund
• Appointment of a Rensselaer County Historian
• Appointment of a Rensselaer County Environmental
• Reactivation of the Environmental Management Council
Grimm is a resident of Troy for almost 50 years and is
one of nine children. He is a 1976 graduate of Hudson
Valley Community College. |
